James studied technical film arts at Wimbledon School of Art before embarking on his career as a sculptor. With both his Grandfather and Father being sculptors he had a good knowledge of technique from an early age.

Since graduating in 2004 he has worked as a sculptor in France. He has recently returned to England and begun work in a bronze foundry in East London.
